The OpsCon. A bespoke CMS the team actually wanted to use.

The OpsCon — site fold

01 — Context

The brief

The OpsCon is a specialist oilfield operations consultancy — senior consultants advising operators and service companies on the work that happens between the procurement contract and the well being delivered. Heavy on credibility, light on the kind of "leadership team" stock-photo culture most agencies default to.

They came to us with a working WordPress site that had outgrown itself. Editors wrestled with blocks they didn’t need, the front end carried the cost, and updates went through too many hands. The team wanted to publish on their own terms.

The job: a performance-led site with a CMS shaped around how this team writes — not how a generic page-builder thinks they should.

02 — Approach

Our approach

We rebuilt The OpsCon on Next.js with a bespoke editor-first CMS — every field on every page exists because an editor needed it, and nothing else. No drag-and-drop block soup, no "what does this toggle do" confusion. The shape of the content drives the shape of the editor.

Design-side, we leaned into the consultancy’s actual voice: measured, technical, no oilfield-cowboy clichés. Typography does the heavy lifting; imagery only appears where it earns its place on the page.

Performance was non-negotiable — this is a B2B audience that reads on a laptop in an airport lounge. We shipped Lighthouse-100 across the public surface and held the line through the post-launch content waves.

03 — Outcome

The outcome

The OpsCon now publishes on its own schedule, in its own voice, without any developer in the loop. Editors describe the CMS as the part of the day they don’t have to think about.

Inbound enquiry quality has shifted — fewer tyre-kickers, more pre-qualified conversations — a function of the site now reading like the senior consultancy it is.

The Next.js + bespoke-CMS pattern we built for The OpsCon is now the same backbone running half a dozen Pink Frog Studio client sites — proven, predictable, fast.
