Awareness
Definition
The first stage of the marketing funnel where people discover your business exists. They have a problem but may not know the solution yet.
What is Awareness?
Awareness is the top of the marketing funnel. At this stage, potential customers are just discovering your business exists. They might have a problem they need to solve, but they're not yet looking for specific solutions.
Your goal at this stage is simply to get noticed by the right people.
Types of Awareness
Problem Aware
People know they have a problem but don't know solutions exist. Content that educates works well here.
Solution Aware
People know solutions exist but haven't found yours yet. This is where SEO and advertising help you get discovered.
Brand Aware
People know your business exists but haven't engaged with you. Now you need to build trust and interest.
Building Awareness
Effective awareness tactics include:
- Content marketing: Blog posts, videos, guides
- SEO: Ranking for relevant searches
- Social media: Organic posts and engagement
- Advertising: Paid reach on Google, Facebook, etc.
- PR: Media coverage and mentions
- Word of mouth: Referrals and recommendations
Measuring Awareness
Track metrics like:
- Website traffic from new visitors
- Social media reach and impressions
- Brand search volume in Google
- Share of voice compared to competitors
Awareness campaigns often feel expensive because there's no immediate sale. But without awareness, there's no one to convert later.
